Overcoming Premature Ejaculation: Rewriting Ancient Instincts for Modern Intimacy

Writer's picture: Sophie WeisenseeSophie Weisensee

Premature ejaculation remains a significant challenge for many men, and while it may fade with age for some, it persists as a stubborn companion throughout one's sexual journey.

Our bodies are still operating on a program established by our ancestors – the instinct to reproduce as quickly as possible. Rapid ejaculation was advantageous in the context of survival and procreation.

The theory goes like this: in ancient times, a moment of intimacy was always fraught with risks. During the act, a man was incredibly vulnerable, making it easy for a potential enemy to seize the opportunity and remove the copulating individual from the scene. Hence, speed was of the essence, ideally without making any noise that could attract adversaries. Once the seed was sown, relief and a generous dose of reward hormones, such as dopamine, followed.

However, times have changed, and we are no longer in a situation where rapid reproduction and fending off enemies are immediate concerns. Our bodies, however, have not updated this information.

This is just one of the many factors contributing to the tendency in men to struggle with prolonged lovemaking.

But here's the good news: You can learn to have extended and enjoyable intimacy!
